La Opalia is a fashion house rooted in tradition, materials and people. We honour handwork and carry it into the future through modern design and local production, creating clothes made with the intention that they will stay with you forever.
It all began in Podlasie
That is where the art of hand knitting has been passed down for generations. Our Master Knitters create every sweater stitch by stitch, exactly as their grandmothers did before them.
Three rules we never break
By hand, from start to finish
No machine ever touches our sweaters. Each one is made on knitting needles, with stitches that have not changed for generations, and it is this slowness that keeps hand-knitted sweaters in shape and quality for years, not just a season.
No rush, no compromise
We don't keep a warehouse full of ready-made pieces. We knit only once you place your order. It is more expensive and slower than mass production, but it means zero overproduction and nothing thrown away before anyone has worn it.
Bought once. Kept forever.
We don't design for a season. We design for decades. This is not a sweater you buy because it is fashionable right now, it is the sweater you reach for when you need something that truly wraps you up.
How it's made your sweater
Every La Opalia sweater begins with the choice of fibre. We choose alpaca because it is up to 5 times warmer than sheep's wool, and it contains no lanolin, so it doesn't itch or irritate even the most sensitive skin.
We combine it with mulberry silk for lightness and softness, so the sweater feels far more delicate than anything you would usually associate with the word wool.
Then the real work begins. Our Master Knitters from Podlasie pick up their needles and make every sweater from start to finish, with no machines and no shortcuts. It is slower than factory production, but this very slowness keeps our sweaters in shape and quality for years.
